Appel à contributions – « Music and the Anthropocene » – 1er mars 2023

Appel à contributions de SEM Student News, « Music and the Anthropocene », vol. 19.1 (printemps-été 2023).

« This is the first call for submissions for the Spring/Summer 2023 issue of SEM Student News. We are calling this new issue, vol. 19, no.1, « Music and the Anthropocene. » Conceived broadly to consider how humans in this geologic period both create music and impact the planet, we welcome all submissions that pertain to human relationships with, and responses to, ecologies of the Anthropocene. While ecomusicology and related topics centering on music and the environment have been around for fifty years, the current graduate student interest in these concerns renders it necessary to consider new directions in our ecologically-focused research. In this edition, we aim to explore how music relates to environmental, ecological, and sustainability concerns, especially considering our current climate crisis. We invite articles that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Ecomusicology

  • Sustainability, especially as it pertains to human traditions, instrument making, and/or the consumption of musical products

  • Music and climate change; music and environmental activism

  • Indigenous musics and their relationship to ecological knowledge

  • Non-human musicking/sounding

  • Engagement with music in related frameworks (Capitalocene, Plantationocene, etc.)

  • Musical entanglements with Anthropogenic geopolitics, including capitalism, displacement, colonialism, etc. »

Date limite de soumission : 1er mars 2023.
