Appel à contributions pour un projet de livre sur le sujet suivant : « Orality in Western European Classical Music », sous la dir. de Dr. Eileen Mah (Université d’Indianapolis).
« Eileen Mah invites proposals for a book project (edited collection) on Orality in Western European classical music—how orality exists, coexists, resists, persists, intersects, deteriorates, flourishes, and otherwise functions in the context of a music culture so associated with notation that repertoire is called “literature,” and “sheet music” is shortened to “music.”
Existing scholarship addresses certain aspects of orality in classical music, but we are lacking a study with this sole focus, encompassing the tradition as a whole. The general perception is of dichotomy between literate and oral transmission, with classical music being essentially literate. While some subcategories of musical activity can function as purely literate, every sphere of musicianship involves the creation and hearing of sound, or at very least, a relationship to forms of transmission, including ideological implications attached to forms of transmission. »
