« The poetic works of E.T.A. Hoffmann have inspired generations of artists of all disciplines. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his death, the symposium focuses on Hoffmann’s reception in compositions of the 20th and 21st centuries as well as on his ambivalent fascination with musical automata that appears to be undecided between attraction and discomfort and finds expression in his literary works, such as Der Sandmann or Die Automate. »
