« The 21st century is a time of viral social and cultural acceleration, which continuously shapes (meta)physical limits by updating the socio-cultural dynamics of interdisciplinary research and blended scholarly identities. As the AMS/SMT/SEM Megaconference endeavors to bring together heterogenous approaches to music studies, our After-Dark panel likewise seeks a more concrete, nuanced understanding of academic sociocultural/musical hybridity, stressing the need for a critique of the concept and its harmonious connotations. We aim to explore new ways to overcome the essentialization and commodification of scholarly sociocultural/musical hybridity taking place in the global auditory academy. We encourage new meanings, action-oriented concepts in a broader discussion about localization, translation, and digitization of scholarly identities in our interconnected global field(s). »
