« We want to see your methodology galore! Show the musicological world why your old take on a new classic–“paleo-Riemannian theory”–is the hippest thing to hit the scholarship circuit since Historically Informed Performance. Regale us with tales of a nifty trinket you found in the archives, describing in detail its delightful texture, aroma, & essence, regardless of its (ir)relevance to any musicological question(s) &/or argument(s). Explain to us how we do what we do (explain it to us like we’re 5), & why your (not so) unique way of doing it is demonstrably superior to other ways of doing it. Get into the metacognitive weeds with your analytical approach, & if you must make an actual point in the process, feel free to do so unintentionally. We want to know “how;” “what” & “why” are incidental. »
