Appel à contributions pour le numéro thématique « The Musical Sublime in the Nineteenth Century », Nineteenth-Century Music Review.

« This issue will explore the relationship between sublime aesthetics, in its various formulations throughout the long nineteenth century, and the lives and works of significant composers. An introductory essay will introduce the conceptual history of music and the sublime up to the nineteenth century. This will be followed by commissioned articles by scholars able to make conceptual and contextual connections between particular composers, musical works, musical genres, etc. with the diverse concepts associated with the sublime in the nineteenth century.

This special issue seeks to open up new ways of understanding the relationship of sublime aesthetics with the composers and musical culture of the nineteenth century. It aims to explore the sublime with regard to musical and biographical particulars, with attention to: (1) musical biography, (2) musical representation, (3) historical accounts of music composition and performance, and (4) reception history. »
