Appel de conférences pour le colloque « Music, Press, and Transatlantic Cultural Relations », SEdeM/UFPEL, La Rioja, Espagne, 2-4 novembre 2023.

« The study of Music and Press becomes undeniably significant in this transatlantic context, where continuous flows of migration and diaspora have left deep marks and scars and where Spanish and Portuguese-speaking communities have established close linguistic bonds. For this reason, the Study Group Music and Press (MUSPRES) of the Spanish Musicological Society and the Center of Arts of the Universidade Federal de Pelotas (Brazil) have joined together to celebrate the XI edition of the annual MUSPRES Conference and the VII edition of the International Symposium Music and Criticism, and invite the submission of proposals related to the following topics, without excluding other interdisciplinary contributions on Music, Press, and cultural relations among Europe, America, and Africa:

  • Music and Music Press in transatlantic cultural networks.
  • Distribution, reception, and transatlantic circulation of music journals and magazines in Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Production, consumption, and circulation of Music and Performing Arts genres and repertoires from -or thanks to- the Press.
  • Music press and Identity negotiation in contexts of migration and transatlantic diaspora.
  • Hispanic / Iberian / Afro-Latin American Music and Performing Arts Festivals in the Press.
  • Construction / discussion of musical and literary canons in the transatlantic context.
  • Language and Music in constructing transatlantic identities in -and through- the Press.
  • Translation, adaptation, and assimilation of Music- and literary-related texts, concepts and ideas in the Press Media.
  • Digital music (or music-related) press and transnational communities.
  • Impact of Artificial Intelligence and Newspaper Digitalization on Cultural and music press research. »
